Lake Eyasi is home to East Africa’s last true hunter-gatherers – the Hadzebe. They expertly hunt animals such as antelope, gazelles, birds, and mongooses using bows and arrows. Additionally, they gather fruit, roots, and honey from the baobab trees. Possessing only what is essential for survival, like their bows, arrows, and a few cooking pots, the Hadzabe have their arrows crafted by another local tribe, the Datoga. The Datoga, skilled blacksmiths and herders, collect scrap metal and expertly fashion it into bracelets, arrowheads, and knives. They engage in trade, exchanging these crafted tools for food collected by the Hadzabe. Both tribes are known for their hospitality and will warmly welcome you.
